AJS Read Aloud Afternoon!
This term, we have been focusing on the importance of reading out loud to support our fluency and speed when reading. In order to celebrate the success of the children's fluency in reading, as well as a way to continue to promote the importance of reading out loud, we organised a 'Reading out loud' afternoon. Teachers, teaching assistances and the children all took time out to get together to soak up a good book.
Read aloud motivates children to celebrate the power of words and sharing their reading voice with others around them. Moreover, reading aloud builds many important foundational skills, introduces vocabulary, provides a model of fluent, expressive reading and helps children recognise what reading for pleasure is all about. As a school, we have recognised the importance of creating more opportunities to read aloud in the class, in assemblies and to different year groups. Therefore, this event has continued to stress the importance, as well as promoting the benefits, of reading out loud.
