Year Three enjoyed a fantastic trip exploring two places of worship as part of their RE learning. 🌟

The children took guided tours of Faizane Madina Mosque and Peterborough Cathedral, gaining first-hand experience of two faiths studied in school. 🕌⛪

It was a valuable and respectful day of learning, with lunch enjoyed in the Cathedral lunch room. A great opportunity to bring classroom learning to life!

On Wednesday the 19th of March classes Kenya, Egypt and Morocco went to Woburn Safari Park to see lots of animals. To get to Woburn we went on a coach. I sat next to Ella. We sang songs together. It didn't really feel like a long time because I was distracted by what was outside. I enjoyed it a lot because I got to sit next to my best friend. The first thing we did was go on a road safari. We saw a cheeky monkey, a tall giraffe and a stunning wolf. There were two crazy things that happened. The first thing was when a monkey jumped on top of the coach and the other thing was when an eland chased the coach. After that we went on a foot safari. We saw a lemur with one eye, a big horse and a sea lion splashing about. For no reason a lemur was staring at me. My favourite animal was the pig because it was sleeping but the funny part is that it wriggled about a lot.

In addition to our themed activities, we learned about how chocolate melts when heated and made our own chocolate sparklers with breadsticks and sprinkles- delicious and fun! To top it all off, the children had a wonderful time toasting marshmallows over a fire pit outdoors. What a fantastic start to our half term!

Thank you to everyone who donated items this week. Yesterday, Mr Bennett from the 'Helping Our Ukrainian Friends' charity, Miss Neacy and a team of Class Ambassadors sorted all the gifts into boxes, wrapped in Christmas paper and wrote cards with a Christmas message from all at AJS to the children who will receive the gifts. Members of the charity are driving from Peterborough to Kiev next week and have promised to send some photos from their trip!

Pre School - walked for 20 minutes and covered a distance of 1km

Early Years  - walked for 40 minutes and covered a distance of 2km 

Year 1 and Year 2 - walked for 50 minutes and covered a distance of 3km

Year 3 and 4 - walked for 60 minutes and covered a distance of 4km

Year 5 - walked for 60 minutes and covered a distance of 5km

Year 6 - walked for 45 minutes and covered a distance of 4km

The school council will now think about ways in which the sponsorship money should be spent and on what kind of resources.

On Friday 4th October six sports ambassadors, Amelia M, Mila M, Caitlin D, Jonah E, Isaac M and Oliver W attended a training session hosted by New Road Primary School. The session started with an ice breaker task which involved the children finding out something about a partner from another school. The children then thought about what their role as a sports ambassador should look like and what jobs they might take on back at school. They also talked about taking on the role of playground leader and how it could be set up within their school setting. After a short break the children then took part in a practical session learning and teaching the rest of the group a playground game of their choice. The morning finished with the children eating their lunch together. The ideas they have come up with will now be developed in school.

Walk to School Month takes place during October each year and encourages pupils to celebrate the journey to school on foot.

Each Key Stage 2 class had a group session where they got to play a range of Samba instruments and compose and create large compositions as a class. The children had opportunities to try all of the instruments and perform together for an extended amount of time.

Early Years and Key Stage 1 went to a Body Percussion workshops where they learned a range of rhythmic patterns using different parts of their bodies. 

The children were enthusiastic and engaged really well with Ollie. He was inspiring and made the sessions lively and a lot of fun. We are hoping to be able to have the opportunity to be able to work with Ollie again soon!

The children drew daffodils, clover, roses and thistles and placed these on a stamp design. These were then gathered together in two giant displays, which are near the front reception desks.
